| 1994 Mazda Rx7 FD 1.3L Twin Turbo 5 speed manual - $24k FIRM |
| 01/12/09 |
This is an original mileage, garage kept, babied, pristine 1994 FD Rx7. It has the touring package. Car has never seen snow or rain, no accidents, all original parts, all factory maintained. The mileage is original at 43k miles. Engine has never been rebuilt and no major parts have been replaced. The coolant tank is new as well as the exhaust. These are the ONLY 2 upgrades to the car. Otherwise it is completely STOCK. The engine does not have any mechanical problems and has always been babied. I never drove this car in the summer when it was hot out. It was ALWAYS in the Fall or Winter, when the weather was much cooler. When it wasn't being driven, it was garaged, and kept under a car cover. The immaculate paint will prove this statement. Oil changes have been given every 3000 miles. However, the car was purchased with 33,000 original miles on it. That means that out of the 6 years I’ve owned this car, only 10,000 miles were put on it. That’s less than 1,700 miles per year. The tires are winter tires and have about 80% tread life left.
Background: I am a car enthusiast and the Rx7 was my dream car since high school. I am the 2nd owner of this car. I currently live in southern California but purchased this car in Des Moines, Iowa more than 6 years ago.
During my research for this car, I studied all the pros and cons of each model year. The FD Rx7 was made in the U.S. from 1993 to 1995. Each model year Rx7 had something added or improved. For example, the interior for the 1993 models seemed to crack and chip throughout the years of ownership. The interior for the 1993 models had tan colored roofs which I didn't like. The interior on the 1994 models have a nicer black cloth that stretches over the roof. The 1993 models also have a stiffer suspension which I thought would be a plus. However, after reading on many Rx7 forums, they prefer the touring package of the 1994 Rx7 which is still stiff, but much more forgiving on longer drives. On the 1994 model, improvements were made that include: a new "one-touch" feature for the driver's window, plus map pockets. Dual airbags were installed, and a softer suspension setting aimed to reduce ride harshness over bumps--especially in the base and Touring editions. In 1995, not to many improvements were made but the “touring package” was removed. An R2 model came out which stiffened the suspension and added an additional oil cooler. One thing I didn’t like about the 1995 model was that the power sunroof/moonroof was made from steel, rather than glass. Glass gives it a much more cleaner look especially when you have it open.
Now with having studied all the pros and cons of each model, I knew the 1994 model was the best in terms of materials used (interior/exterior) and minor performance improvements. I searched for about 6 months to find the perfect Rx7. Even though I was and currently still am living in southern California, I was willing to go just about anywhere to find this car. My search landed me in Des Moines, Iowa, where I purchased my baby from a middle aged man. He was the original owner of the car and still had the dealership’s business card. He was selling the car because he bought a corvette and didn’t have enough room in his garage. The Rx7 was always garaged and kept under a custom Mazda Rx7 car cover. In fact, I use the same car cover today and wash it often, even with minimal outside exposure.
I was so picky about the car, I was even picky about who the owner was. I found out that the owner was a middle aged man. He didn’t have a family and he lived in a nice neighborhood. He seemed very conservative in appearance and I did believe that he was selling his car to open up some space in the garage since I saw the corvette he already purchased.
Known issues:
1) The glove compartment box latch needs to be replaced. Can easily be done at a Mazda Dealership. Due to the model's age, the part will most likely need to be ordered.
2) The interior driver side panel is a little loose.
This car has been babied its entire life from the original owner to me. If you can appreciate my love for this car, you can understand that I will be picky about who purchases this car. I wish to sell it to someone who will love it and treat it with the same respect and care that I have. Its firm price is $24k. Serious inquiries only. Please don’t waste my time. Thank you!
